OnixFeed Shop Connector for Shopify

OnixFeed Shop Connector writes a selected store collection into a Shopify shop and keeps those products updated. Existing shop products stay. A book that leaves the collection is saved as a draft - it is not deleted.

The app is free. The catalogue stays on the connected OnixFeed installation. Store collection setup is admin work in OnixFeed; connecting and syncing happens in the Shopify admin.

What you need

  1. An OnixFeed store collection with books assigned.
  2. A Shopify channel on that collection, with market, price, and gallery set.
  3. A publication key generated on that channel (shown once).
  4. The OnixFeed data host, such as mybooks.data.onixfeed.com.
  5. OnixFeed Shop Connector installed on the shop.

See Store collections for the book list and channel settings.

Set up the Shopify channel (OnixFeed)

  1. Open E-commerce → Store collections.
  2. Create or open a collection and Manage Books.
  3. Add channel → Shopify.
  4. Set Market, Variant structure, Price (markup, channel price type, rounding), optional stock authority, and Gallery images.
  5. Save the channel. Saving does not write products.
  6. Generate key and copy the publication key. Save it now - it is not shown again.
  7. Optional: Sync this shop on schedule and a Time (SAST).

The shop stays Not connected until the app links it.

Connect the shop

  1. Install OnixFeed Shop Connector on the Shopify shop (Shopify admin → Apps).
  2. Open the app. Nav: Home, Records, Blocks, Help.
  3. On Home, under Connect this shop, enter:
    • OnixFeed address - the data host of the installation, such as mybooks.data.onixfeed.com (https, host only).
    • Publication key - from the Shopify channel.
  4. Click Connect.

A successful connect shows Connected, the publication, the host, and whether a daily schedule is on. The OnixFeed channel row then shows Linked and the shop domain.

One publication key binds one shop. Another shop cannot use the same key.

Sync

Click Sync now on Home. A long catalogue keeps running after you leave the page.

Sync writes:

  • Products and variants (format and/or language, as set on the channel)
  • Front cover, then gallery images chosen on the channel
  • Prices when the shop prices include tax and the shop currency matches the channel market
  • Stock quantities, unless this channel is the stock authority (then quantity is read from the shop and is not overwritten)
  • Collections built from the catalogue
  • Publisher, contributor, and review records linked to the books

Products are published to the Shopify sales channels you tick on Home (Online Store until you change them). Save channels after you change the ticks.

If a schedule is on, the same sync runs daily at the time set on the channel. The app shows that time as read-only.

Drafts instead of live products

A product is saved as a draft when:

  • Shop prices do not include tax, or the currency does not match
  • A price cannot be resolved for the channel market
  • The book later leaves the collection

Drafts are not deleted. Fix Supply and channel price settings in OnixFeed, then Sync now.

Records

Home counts Books, Publishers, Contributors, and Reviews. Records lists them.

Delete records removes publisher, contributor, and review records in Shopify. Products and collections stay. Other products in the shop are left alone.

Theme blocks (optional)

Blocks adds optional sections to the theme you already use. Sync first, then add a block and save the theme.

BlockWhereWhat it does
Book fieldsProduct page or product cardOne detail at a time (author, ISBN, format, series, language buttons, and similar). Add the block again for another field
Book detailsProduct pageThe full record layout
Language versionsProduct pageButtons to related editions (each edition is its own product)
BrowseHome pageLists languages, series, subjects, publishers, and other collection groups

Font, colour, and spacing are set on the block in the theme editor.

Disconnect

Disconnect stops sync for this shop. Books, collections, and records already there stay. You can connect again with a publication key.

Connecting to a different catalogue asks before it replaces the books from the previous one. Other shop products are left alone.

Clear shop on the OnixFeed channel lets a new connect set the domain again. Revoke key keeps the shop recorded but the app can no longer connect with that key.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to check
Address rejectedUse the data host only, such as mybooks.data.onixfeed.com, with https
Key does not matchPublication key from this Shopify channel; generate a new key if it was lost
Already connected to another shopEach publication key is one shop; add another Shopify channel for a second shop
Sync failed / not completedOpen Home banners; Sync now again if a run stopped before it finished
Products stay draftShop must include tax in prices; currency must match the channel market; Supply must have a price for that market
No images in the galleryTick gallery types on the Shopify channel, then sync
Schedule never runsEnable Sync this shop on schedule on the channel; the app must be running to check that clock
Counts look emptyConnect, then Sync now; open Records
