OnixFeed XML Viewer

The OnixFeed XML Viewer is a free browser tool. Drop an ONIX file and browse the titles as book cards - covers, ISBNs, prices, availability, and ONIX codes shown as labels.

You do not need an OnixFeed login. Your file stays in your browser. It is not uploaded.

Open it at viewer.onixfeed.com.

What files it accepts

  • ONIX 3.0 or 3.1 with reference tags (ONIXMessage, Header, Product, and so on)
  • File extension .xml or .onx

It does not open:

  • ONIX 2.1 (the viewer says support is coming)
  • ONIX 3 short tags - export or ask for a reference-tag file instead
  • Files that are not valid XML, or that have no ONIXMessage root

OnixFeed outbound feeds are ONIX 3.1 reference tags by default. See ONIX feeds.

Open a file

  1. Go to viewer.onixfeed.com.
  2. Drop an .xml or .onx file on the panel, or click the drop zone to choose one.
  3. Or paste XML into the box and click Show titles.
  4. To try the tool first, click Load sample feed.

If the file cannot be read, an error appears on that same screen (for example not valid XML, or short tags).

Browse the feed

After a file opens you see the file name and a short summary: Sender, Sent, Products, and ONIX version / tag style.

Each product is a card: cover (when the URL in the file is public), ISBN-13, title, contributors, publisher, availability, and prices.

  • Search - title, ISBN, contributor, or publisher. Cards that do not match are hidden.
  • Use the page controls if the feed is long.
  • Click a card to open the detail drawer.

Load another file in the header returns to the landing screen. The previous file is cleared from the page.

Book detail

The drawer shows the record as a book, not as raw XML. Typical fields:

  • Record reference, ISBN, notification type
  • Publisher, format, languages
  • Publishing status, availability, prices
  • Contributors and roles (codes decoded)
  • Other identifiers, series, subjects
  • Text content (blurb and similar) - View more if the text is long
  • Contributor biographies
  • Related products, resources (cover and other links), awards, sales rights

Close the drawer or press Escape.

This is a viewer, not a validator and not an importer. To load the file into OnixFeed, use Import ONIX or an inbound feed. To check a title already in the catalogue, use Validation.

When to use it

  • Check an outbound OnixFeed XML before you send it to a partner
  • Open a partner file before you import it
  • Share viewer.onixfeed.com with someone who does not have OnixFeed - they can drop the same file and see the books
